Argonaute1 is important in cleaving (slicing) the targets of micro RNAs (miRNAs) and has also a role in the production of short interfering RNAs (siRNAs) guided by miRNAs. Two publications this week addressed these functions of Argonaute1 in Arabidopsis (Arribas-Hernandez et al., The Plant Cell 28, 1563 – 1580; Arribas-Hernandez et al., Plant Physiology 171, 2620 – 2632.). The structure of human Argonaute1 from the animated gif has been published in 2013 by K. Nakanishi et al.. The guide RNA in complex with Argonaute1 is given in light colour in the gif.<\/p>\n
